Carmen is honored to be the 2025 recipient of the Bill Withers Scholarship through the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
The recipient of the Bill Withers Scholarship, as intended by Marcia Withers and their daughter, singer/songwriter Kori Withers, is one whose work reflects the eloquence of songwriting together with the spirit and soul that define the songs of Bill Withers.
Carmen was thrilled to be one of two opening acts invited to perform at the iconic Lodge Room for the LA show of the NPR Tiny Desk Contest On the Road Tour.

At the prestigious Essentially Ellington high school jazz band competition at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City, Carmen's band, Dillard Center for the Arts, won Outstanding Rhythm Section as well as 2nd place in the overall competition.
When the world shut down in the spring of 2020, Essentially Ellington went online. Despite the challenging circumstances, Dillard once again was honored for Outstanding Rhythm Section, and Carmen was one of two participants awarded Outstanding Piano.
As Essentially Ellington remained online in 2021, Dillard once again won Outstanding Rhythm Section, and Carmen was the sole pianist in the competition awarded Outstanding Piano.
